Pricing, payments and payouts
Free to publish, free to list. When a skill sells, you keep 70% of your asking price and TheSkillz keeps 30%.
How a sale works
- You set your price. Free, or anything from $1 upwards with no ceiling. That figure is what your 70% is calculated from.
- Buyers pay a little more than that. Card processing costs a flat $0.37 per sale plus about 4.7%, and we add it to the buyer’s price rather than taking it out of your share — so 70% means 70% of the number you typed, not of whatever was left after fees.
- Whop takes the payment. Whop is the merchant of record: it is the seller named on the receipt, it handles VAT and sales tax wherever the buyer is, and card details never touch our servers.
- Your share is transferred to you automatically. It lands in your own Whop balance within moments of the sale — no invoice, no waiting for a monthly run.
- You withdraw whenever you like. Bank transfer, mobile wallet or crypto wallet, in 200+ countries.
What that looks like
The flat part of the card fee doesn’t shrink with the price, so the markup is heavy on very cheap listings and almost invisible on the rest.
| You ask | Buyer pays | Card fee | You get | We get |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| $1.00 | $1.49 +49% | $0.44 | $0.73 | $0.32 |
| $5.00 | $5.99 +20% | $0.65 | $3.74 | $1.60 |
| $9.00 | $9.99 +11% | $0.84 | $6.40 | $2.75 |
| $29.00 | $30.99 +7% | $1.83 | $20.41 | $8.75 |
| $49.00 | $51.99 +6% | $2.81 | $34.43 | $14.75 |
Buyer prices are rounded up to the nearest $0.49 or $0.99, and the few cents that rounding creates go to you — which is why “you get” is sometimes a shade above 70%. Sales tax and VAT are added by Whop at checkout on top of these figures, and vary by country.
Getting paid
- Verify your identity once
- Before a paid skill can sell, Whop needs to know who you are — a legal requirement for anyone receiving money, not a hurdle we invented. Start it from your settings; it takes a photo of an ID document and a selfie. Whop’s verification provider handles it directly, so we never see or store your documents or bank details. Free skills need none of this.
- Until you’re verified
- Your paid listings stay unbuyable rather than taking money we can’t pass on. If a sale ever does land before verification completes, it is recorded as owed to you and paid the moment you’re approved — nothing is lost.
- Refunds and chargebacks
- Skills are delivered in full at purchase, so sales are non-refundable by default — see the refund terms. Where a refund or chargeback does happen, the buyer’s access is revoked and that sale’s share is not paid out. Whop processes it as merchant of record.
- Free skills
- Cost nothing to publish and nothing to install. No payment account, no verification, no fees — they exist to be found, and they are how most creators here get their first audience.
